Doug Burns was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He said that he knows what 25 degrees below zero is. After High School, he attended Iowa State University and received a BS degree in Business Administration in 1979. He started his career with Bouroughs Corporation in the Minneapolis area. He took a new job with Hewlett Packard in Minneapolis after research said that they were the best company to work for in the US and worked for HP in a number of sales and marketing positions. As each winter got a little colder, he looked for other opportunities and transferred to HP in Fort Collins in 1995 and again he was involved in several marketing positions. He said that he really enjoys our climate...

When HP offered early retirement in 2007, he jumped at the chance and has been semi-retired, worked for Marsanne Link part time as he put it, until six months ago. Since then, he has wanted to start giving back to the community and has joined the Board of Directors at Elderhaus, volunteers at the Visit Fort Collins center in Old Town Fort Collins and is now the Volunteer Coordinator for the Red Cross in Fort Collins.

Doug has been a widower for the last three years after 31 years of a wonderful marriage, has two children living here in Fort Collins and one recent grandchild. He enjoys boating on Horsetooth Reservoir, hiking and biking and a occasional round of golf.
