“On a hot July day in 1924, amateur archaeologists Claude C. Coffin, his son A. Lynn Coffin, and friend C.K. Collins were exploring a deep arroyo cut into the red and white cliffs on William Lindenmeier’s ranch”, according to the Fort Collins Museum & Discovery Science Center.  Over the next year they discovered “34 strange, beautiful, leaf-shaped projectile points”.  But it wasn’t until a 1934-40 Smithsonian investigation, that Lindenmeier changed forever our understanding of human history in the Western Hemisphere...

Wednesday, September 17, Rotarian Dave Stewart will introduce his brother-in-law and Lindenmeier Site expert, Brian P. Carroll, to help us ‘discover’ this very important archeological site in our back yard.

Brian Carroll was born in Washington, D.C. and spent his early years there and in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father was assigned with the U.S. Air Force.  As an 8th grader in Wiesbaden, he met his future wife, Victoria (sister of Mary Stewart).  Brian received his BS from Merrimack College, North Andover, Massachusetts, and his MA in Business Management from Leslie University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Over a 27 year FBI special Agent career, he had assignments in Jacksonville, Fla., Philadelphia, Pa., Quantico, Va., Washington, D.C., Kansas City, Mo. and Chicago, Illinois.  He retired from the FBI in 1996, moved to Fort Collins and established Carroll Security to conduct vulnerability assessments, crisis management plans, and security audits for the private sector.  He also contracted with the FBI and U.S. State Department to help foreign police officials manage counter terrorism programs and terror incident responses.  For the last eight years Brian has been a volunteer Master Naturalist for the City of Fort Collins, developing programs on the cultural significance of our natural areas, particularly Lindenmeier.  Brian lives in Fort Collins with his wife, Victoria, and they have three daughters and four grandchildren.
