This week Beer Town meets Colorado Wine, for a presentation promised to be “filled with everything you didn’t know about Colorado’s winery and tasting room scene, as well as some ideal accoutrements to round out your entire experience”.  Author Paula Mitchell will be introduced by Past President Bill West.

Here are a few facts about Colorado’s wine scene.
  • Colorado enjoys over 135 wineries and tasting rooms
  • Wine production in Colorado dates back (officially) to 1899
  • Colorado’s vineyards rest between 4000 and 7000 feet, making them the highest in the Northern Hemisphere
  • Merlot is the state’s most widely planted varietal (sorry, Sideways fans)
Paula Mitchell grew up in Niagara Falls, NY and moved to Denver in 1976.  She is married with two daughters.  She combined her interest in wine, and passion for Colorado into a guidebook, Exploring Colorado Wineries - Guidebook & Journal.  Before writing the first edition she traveled all around Colorado, conducted “wine exploring” presentations, attended numerous wine festivals and earned her Level 2 Sommelier certification.  Her objective is to help readers discover Colorado through wine, and promotional material says her book contains “everything you need to know about Colorado wineries, cideries and meaderies”.  Books will be available for purchase.
