Stewart Fairburn was born and raised in the Air Force family. His father was a fighter pilot in World War II and in South East Asia. His mother was a registered nurse and nurse/stewardess. Stewart said that a lot of us comes from our family. When his father was transferred to Colorado, it was the eighth place he had lived in at the age of thirteen. Stewart said that he was lucky that he was able to attend all four years in the same High School in Colorado Springs. He graduated from the University of Colorado in Political Science and then graduated from Oklahoma University at Norman with a Masters in Public Administration. Stewart worked for the City of Aurora for 10 years – half of which as the Budget Officer. To get to his goal of being a City Manager, they moved to Grandview Missouri where he served as an Assistant City Manager. Stewart then was a City Manager for almost eighteen years in Lake Dallas, Texas, Gardner,Kansas and lastly in Chickashaw, Oklahoma. Stewart retired and they moved to Fort Collins last summer.

Ann was an electrical engineer and worked at Storage Tech and at Lockheed Martin. She left work to raise the children and to help in his job search. To get her engineering fix she has worked with High Schools on the FIRST Robotics program, coaching for ten years. She now volunteers at Fossil Ridge High School on their robotics team.

The oldest of their two boys received his Electrical Engineering degree from CU and is working at Lockheed Martin (same place Mom worked). The youngest is still working on his Computer Science degree.

This is Stewart’s third Rotary Club – having been a club president in Gardner, Kansas as well as Chair of the Youth Exchange Committee. Stewart stated that he was glad that he belonged to an organization that provides the opportunity to help the community and the world.
