Susan Larson, a native Californian from the Bay area, told us how a desire for community and service led her to her profession and to becoming a member of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins.

Susan’s father was a Rotarian and took her to her first Rotary meeting as a child. Her mentor at California State University Chico was, and still is, an active Rotarian. Her B.A. degree is in Communication...

Susan spent over 15 years as a marketing professional in Silicon Valley. In 2000 with a desire to escape the rat race, Susan and her ex-husband cashed out, bought a boat and spent two years traveling and volunteering in Mexico and Central America. Upon returning from her 2 year sabbatical, Susan realized that her new world view was incompatible with her old life and that belonging to a community and being of service to that community had become her new core values.

The Bay area was no longer a welcoming place for Susan. She started a new career in financial services, a career that she felt allowed her to be of service. With her husband Derek, Susan moved to Fort Collins where she participates many service activities. Recently she started working with Chuck Rutenberg at JBA Wealth Management Group. Susan thanked Chuck for being a mentor and friend and thanked the club for helping to make Fort Collins feel like home. She said that she was blessed to be a member of our club and she loves being part of our community.
