Weekly Program Notes:
November 15 Program:  Wolf Robotics - Welding the World

Last week our speaker was Kyle Taylor, a Colorado native and CSU graduate, who now works as an engineer at Wolf Robotics.  Wolf has 130 employees at their Fort Collins facility, and employees in Brazil and Mexico.  As part of its professional outreach, Wolf collaborates with CSU in an active intern program.

Kyle showed photos and described a number of robot-welder applications, including high heat, high pressure and corrosive environments, including under sea applications, where human welders could not operate.  The company’s innovations include heavy welding software, preheat (using a blowtorch) and temperature sensing, additive manufacturing (including metal 3D printing), advanced human machine interfaces and simplified welding power source controls.   Wolf Robotics is the successor to Heath Engineering, founded in 1944.

November 8 Program: RCFC Celebrates Veteran's Day
November 8, Donna Chapel, a Marine Mom, and Jenny Pickett, Director of  the CSU Adult Learner and Veteran Services Office, emceed our Veteran’s Day program honoring our Rotarians who have served in the military.   Donna first updated us on Veteran's Compass and the Finish Line Scholarship program, founded by Donna and Jenny, and supported by RCFC, the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado.

After that report Jenny and Donna handed the mic to 12 RCFC veterans, who shared their personal history and experiences.  Veteran speakers included Richard Skaggs, Bill Schaffter, Harry Muller, Bob Simmons, Bob Lawrence, Eric Peterson, Warren Wilson, Kelly Kesler, Lee Jeffrey, Isaias Braga, Chuck Rutenberg and Jenny Pickett.

Betty Brown will celebrate her 80th birthday at the MoA on December 9 at 5:16 p.m.  music will be provided.

Rob Marschke is looking for volunteers to read to primary children.  Talk to him if you are interested.

Jud Harper reminded members that Colorado Gives is Dec. 5.  Donations made to the Legacy Fund through CG are eligible for some matching monies from Colorado First.

Bill Schaffter announced Salvation Army bell ringing on Dec. 9 at Walmart Ann King Soopers on Timberline.  Signup sheets will be on tables the next two weeks.

Dan Mackey announced we would be hosting only a short-term youth exchange student this year, but would urge anyone who can to help underwrite a full-year student at Powell, Wyoming.  Talk to Dan if interested or able.

OLD ANNOUNCEMENTS STILL VALID:
November is Rotary Foundation month.  Please wear any and/or all your PHF stuff during that month.  Pins, medallions, PHF Society pins or chevrons, etc. are hiding in your jewel chests.  Dig 'em out and wear 'em.  Medal up!

Sally Lee reminded everyone to use their King Soopers cards with Thanksgiving coming up.  See her if you need one!

RCFC is now part of the Colorado Gives Day December 5 effort which encourages individuals to support philanthropic causes through a web donation.  You can make a gift to the RCFC Legacy Fund by Googling Colorado Gives and entering Rotary Club of Fort Collins in to their web page.  That will take you to the spot where you enter any amount that you wish to donate.  To encourage donations, the Community First Foundation will match proportionally all gifts received up to a total of one million.  It’s an easy and a great way to underwrite our Club’s efforts in Northern Colorado.

Ralph Smith has produced a calendar of local photos.  He will contribute $5 of the total price of $14 to the club.

Youth Exchange Chair Dan Mackey announced the Rotary Short Term Summer Student Exchange Program (STEP), for summer 2018.  STEP is a family to family exchange program, meaning all student automatically have a host family on the other end, and families pay all program expenses.  See Dan if you have questions, or have a student that wants to apply.

A gift to the Legacy Fund is a great way to memorialize a birthday, anniversary, the birth of a child or grandchild, etc.  Each gift gets the Club closer to our goal of $1 Million by our centennial in August 2018.  The Legacy Fund supports local Rotary projects such as Community grants, scholarships, and civic projects.  Cash, appreciated property such as stock or planned gifts such as those in a will are all great ways to support the Legacy Fund.

Marty Bachman asks that the Care and Recognition Committee needs everyone's help so as not to miss any special event or occasions that should be acknowledged.  Contact Marty, Melanie, or Jeanne with your information.

If you want to contribute to the District 5930 Disaster Relief Fund, contact Jeanne for the online link.

Lynne Baker, one of three co-chairs of the Centennial Committee, reports that much is being planned for our Centennial Year.  Culmination will be a dinner on August 1, 2018, at in the Stadium Club in the new CSU stadium.  Profits from sales of wreaths and flower baskets are helping to fund the activities.  She then announced that each member will be assessed $5 per quarter until our anniversary on the quarterly statement, as approved by our Board.
