Changing of the Guard

Jan Bertholf

Chuck Rutenberg
It’s out with the old, in with the new! Led by Past Presidents Susie Ewing, John Roberts and a cast of tens, today we celebrate the annual “Changing of the Guard” in jolly good style. Incoming President, Jan Bertholf will be duly inducted, even as we ‘fete’ outgoing President Chuck Rutenberg in his prime.

While details are being closely guarded (at least until somebody makes them up…), rumors are that President Rutenberg, as the lovely Dorothy, will find himself/herself deep within the land of OZ. But who is behind the curtain pulling the levers, and who will play Toto? Inquiring minds want to know! The Rotary Players are pleased to serve a not-so-well-done “Chuck-roast”.

Chuck Rutenberg is a Financial Advisor with JBA Wealth Management, specializing in retirement planning since 2001. Prior to JBA he was Finance Director for Eastman Kodak. For his work with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program, in 2006/2007 he was recognized as District Rotarian of the year. Chuck and his wife Lynn have two daughters, one son and three grandchildren.

Besides receiving the Rotary International President’s Citation for a strong club, Fort Collins Rotary, under the leadership of President Chuck, received nine (9) honors during the recent District Conference. Those honors include the District Vocational Service Award (Merit Badge University); District Community Service Project (at-risk youth / Mathews House); District Cecil Staver Award for Best Club Communications (new website); District Certificate of Achievement (contributed over $25,000 to the Rotary Foundation); two Honorable Mention Awards for World Community Services (Mexico and Guatemala), and Honorable Mention for Vocational Services (4-Way Test).

Incoming President Jan Bertholf retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, US Army before joining The Group Inc. Real Estate in Fort Collins. Jan received his BA in History/Mathmetics from Texas A&M, and his MS in Geography/Planning (emphasis Middle East) from South Dakota State University. Jan and wife JJ have four children and one grandchild.

Last Week's Program

Bob Lawrence

Eric Wilkinson

Gary Wockner
Bob Lawrence introduced the speakers for the program on the proposed Glade Reservoir Project. First Eric Wilkinson, General Manager for Northern Colorado Water Conservarory District (NCWCD) spoke for the Northern Integrated Supply Project, NISP or Glade Resivoir Project. Wilkinson used his ten minutes to describe the what, where, when, why, who and how of this project sponsoired by fifteen communities and/or water districts.

Then Gary Wockner, spokesperson for the Save the Poudre Group, spoke for his ten minutes about why the Glade Reservoir Project should not be approved. The Save the Poudre group is a coalition of 12 groups. All of his arguments are presented on their web site. The two presenters then answered a few questions from the audience and remained after to answer more.

An Environmental Impact Statement, as required by NEPA, for the project is currently at the US Army Corps of Engineers and in the public comment period of its review process. Any comments received will be considered by the Corps to determine whether to issue, modify, condition, or deny a permit for this proposal.

Since this subject is very complicated and controversial, the best thing for club members who want to know more should go the the respective web sites that are listed as follows:
