Apr 23 - PPres Gene Markley (c) receives a "Lifetime of Service" award from Pres Chuck Rutenberg as DG Nancy Pettus observes.  Gene joined the Club March 1, 1949 and served as the Club's President in 1955-56.  That's 59 years of Service.  Congratulations, Gene!

Apr 23 - Pres Chuck Rutenberg (l) presents a "Lifetime of Service" award to Loren Dilsaver.  Loren joined the Club February 23, 1949.  That's 49 years of Service.  Congratulations, Loren!

Apr 23 - Pres Chuck Rutenberg (l) presents a "Lifetime of Service" award to Eugene "Hud" Frink, Jr..  Hud joined the Club in July, 1948.  That's 50 years of Service.  Congratulations, Hud!

Apr 23 - (l-r) Pres Chuck Rutenberg, DG Nancy Pettus, PPres Bill Moellenhoff and PPres Susie Ewing.  Bill received the Four Avenues of Service Award with special recognition of his (and wife, Gentry's) work in the Youth Exchange program.  Bill served as the Club's President in 1990-91.  Congratulations, Bill!

Apr 23 - (l-r) DG Nancy Pettus, Claude Piché, Pres Chuck Rutenberg and PPres Susie Ewing.  Claude received the ?new/"revived" Rotarian of the Year award.  Claude has been active in my Club activities, but his work with the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever program and the Club's were especially noted  Congratulations, Claude!

Service Above Self Awardee, Jack Lundt, could not be present, because one of his "Knowledge Teams" was out of town competing.  He will receive his award at the April 30th meeting.  Claude Piché presented a Power Point show of Jack's accomplishments. I have summarized the National Science Competitions in the table to the right.  Immediately, below is the record of the teams that Jack Lundt has coached.  I plan to scan a print to give a larger, clearer image to replace the one below.  Check for graph abbreviations in the table at the right.
National Science Competitions
Science Olympiad (SO) - 1985
  • K-12 students.  Teams of ~30 in 20+ science/math events including towers, chemistry, 
    paleontology, anatomy, Disease detective, robot ramble, physics, etc.  Winners based on total 
    points accumulated over all the separate events
  • 3,000 + High School teams at reionals with the top 64 teams going to the national finals 
National Science Bowl (SB) - 1991
  • Junior and High School students.  Teams of 4 members compete in round-robin/double 
    elimination format on math and science related topics
  • 2,500+ High School teams at regional with the top 64 going to national finals
National Ocean Science Bowl (OB) - 1998
  • High School students.  Teams of 4 members compete in round-robin/double elimination format 
    on math and ocean related topics including physics, atmospheric science, biology, etc.
  • 400+ teams at regional with the top 25 going to national finals

Apr 23 - Pres Chuck Rutenberg (r) presents a "Lifetime of Service" award  to John Toliver.  John joined the Club March 8, 1950.  That's 58 years of Service.  John is the Club's oldest member at 95.  Congratulations, John!  Sorry about John's back, but another photographer stood up and blocked the frontal view.
