- Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia (MG #54354) Started 8/04
A project with the RC of Addis Ababa Bole to provide beds, furniture, and equipment for a hostel for young indigent women seeking treatment at the fistula hospital in Addis Ababa. The women suffer from fistula problems incurred during child delivery which causes them to be outcasts from their own families. Cost: $17,775
- Dengue Fever in Guatemala (MG #50673) Started 2/03
A project with the RC of Gualan, Guatemala, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and local officials to provide health education materials and training for a medical personnel, volunteers, and teachers in identification and treatment of Dengue Fever. Cost: $15,250
- School Vans for Mexico (MG #56246) Started 11/04
A project with the RCs of Fort Collins Breakfast and Tepic-Nadir, Mexico to provide vans for service to rural children in Tepic-Nadir, Mexico. Cost: $21,000
- Coconut Fiber Processing in the Philippines (MG # 51528) Started 11/03
The Ibajay Small Coconut Farmers Development Cooperative is a 2000 member village coop on the island of Panay in the Philippines that grows coconuts as a rural enterprise. The coconut husks are processed into coconut fiber, converted into twines by a spinning wheel, and woven into nets using a loom. The grant was used to build twiners, looms and a roof for the weavers at the coop. Cost: $6,345
- Productivity Enhancement Program (PEP) for Russian Entrepreneurs (Not a MG project) Started 8/05
A business management training program that brought 11 Russian entrepreneurs to Fort Collins for three weeks of training in small scale construction business practices. This was a project of the four FC RCs and the Windsor RC. Cost: $6,000
- Asthma and Allergy Training Course in Vellore, India (Not a MG project) Started 5/06
To train 20 India physicians, in each of three years , in the field of Asthma and Allergy by International Asthma Services, ISA, and given at the Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. Currently there are no training programs in these fields for the nearly 100 million patients with these disorders in the Indian subcontinent. Cost: $10,000
- School Equipment for Children in Salatiga, Indonesia (MG #51925) Started 11/03
A project to provide school uniforms and supplies for children at four elementary schools, and equipment for vocational training at a school for handicapped children. Cost $12,000

- Dengue Fever in Argentina (MG #12426) Started 8/04
A project underway in a suburban area near Buenos Aires, in partnership with the RC of Jose Maaria Ezeiza. A major outbreak of Dengue Fever in the area has alarmed health authorities in Argentina. Cost: $20,000
- Dengue Fever in Bali (MG #19658) Started 2/03
A project to reduce the incidence of Dengue Fever in Denpasar, Dali, a city of 475,000 persons. The program will provide organized inspection and elimination of mosquito breeding sites in and around homes, education of adults and children, and training of medical personnel in diagnosing and treating the disease. Cost $20,000
- Dental Project in Mexico (MG #53113) Started 11/04
Providing portable dental equipment for use by volunteer dintists and assistants in furnishing badly needed dental care to poor residents in villages around Torreon, Mexico, in partnership with the RCof Torreon. Cost: $8,100

- Dengue Fever in Indonesia (3-H #00-114) Started 8/04
The Foundation approved a grant of $200,000, Rotary Club of Fort Collins and others contributed an additional $20,000, and CDC added $75,000 for this project, which is targeting 14 major urban areas in Indonesia. The project includes educational programs for the public and medical personnel, patterned after the highly successful project in Purwokerto (MG#7365). Dutch Gubler is providing technical guidance for the project, which has the support of boththe Indonesian government and WHO, as well as District 3400 in Indonesia, and the U.S.CDC. Training of Rotarians and local personnel involved in the project began last July, and the project is now underway. Cost $295,000
- Microcredit Band in Indonesia (MG #16373) Started 2/03
Under this project, small loans (typically $100 or less) are provided to poor women to begin or expand small home enterprises with which they can support themselves and their families. The loans must be repaid with interest, with the funds then available for additional loans. Funding has been provided and loans have been made, with supervision by members of the Rotary Club of Purwokerto Hapsari in Central Java, District 3400, and by a Rotary Community Corps in the city. The initial loans have been completed, but the project will continue as loans are repaid. Cost $10,000
- Beef Cattle in Salatiga (MG #21178) Started 11/04
The new Rotary Club of Salatiga is assisting villagers to purchase and fatten beef cattle for sale, with the proceeds used by a local Rotary Community Corps to provide improved health and education for children of the village. The children suffer from diabetes, tuberculosis, and other illnesses, which also interferes with their education. Cost $7,080
- Water Treatment Plant in Colombia (MG #19142) Started 11/04
$17,000 is needed to provide electric power and pumps to operate the water treatment plant for San Isidro, Colombia. A request for a Matching Grant has been submitted to the Foundation for half the cost, and funds have been contributed for the local share. Cost $17,000
- Marine Education and Conservation in the Solomon Islands (MG #21917) Started 11/04
A project to educate native Islanders in conservation and utilization of marine resources, and to encourage development of local enterprises, in partnership with the Nature Conservancy and the Rotary Club of Honiara. Funds will provide a satellite office to support the program with HF radio, solar power system, and desktop computer/printer equipment. Local islanders will build the office with local materials, and the Nature Conservancy will provide equipment, furniture, training, and expatriate staff. Cost $30,000
- School for Disabled Children in India (MG #21911) Started 11/04
This project will provide equipment and facilities for a residential school for disabled children in Kundapura, India. The school serves 100 children from rural areas around Kundapura. The project includes hearing aids, furniture, kitchen equipment, and sanitary waste system. Cost $10,000
- West Nile Fever Project (not a matching grant) Started 11/04
A new project initiated and completed during the 2003-04 year, to develop a public informatioin program about West Nile Fever for implementation by Rotary Clubs in cooperation with local health authorities. The project included a videotape and CD Rom presentation developed by Rotarian Maury Dobby (Media Tech), in partnership with CDC and Rotary. Cost $35,000

- Water Treatment Plant in San Isidro, Colombia: Matching Grant #6976
$50,000 was provided by the Foundation, matched by $50,000 from local clubs and the Catholic Archdiocese of Denver, to fund construction of a slow sand-filter water treatment plant to provide clean water for the residents of San Isidro, Colombia. The project, under the direction of Dave Stewart, is complete, except for electric power and pumps for operation, which are being funded separately (see MG #19142 below). (Cost: $100,000; Rotary Club of Fort Collins share: $17,300)
- School Supplies and Uniforms for Refugee Children in Indonesia: Matching Grant #19659
School bags, uniforms, books, and supplies were provided to 1,000 refugee children in Cilicap, Indonesia. The items, costing $10/child, permit the children, refugees from troubled areas of Aceh, the Malukus, and East Timor, to attend school. (Cost: $10,000; Rotary Club of Fort Collins share: $3,300)
- Save Water, Save Lives: Clean Water for Indonesia: Matching Grant #19660
This project brought clean water from a reservoir by gravity flow to serve the residents of Karang Tengah, a village of 5,200 persons. Eight miles of piping, with storage/distribution reservoirs at strategic locations throughout the village, has eliminated the need for women of the village to walk up to six miles each day carrying containers of water for domestic use. (Cost: $32,740; Rotary Club of Fort Collins share: $4,000)
- Medical Library for Regional Hospital in Honduras: Matching Grant #18509)
Our first project with CAMO (Central American Medical Outreach) provided a medical library in a hospital in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras. The library includes bookshelves, furniture, computer workstations, and visual aid equipment for three classrooms and a conference room. (Cost: $16,000; Rotary Club of Fort Collins share: $5,500)
- Project Deaf 2000 in India: Matching Grant #19838
A project to provide equipment for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing problems among poor residents of Chitradurga, India. The equipment is used by volunteers to educate patients, diagnose problems, treat hearing illnesses, and train local medical personnel. (Cost: $8,000; Rotary Club of Fort Collins share: $2,000) |
