Status: Alan asked Gab Miller, the president of CSU's Engineers without Borders (EWB), to update the committee on the projects in El Salvador. Gab reported that in La Laguneta the wells drilled were only partially successful and so the excess funds provided for the project were used to improve the current system to provide clean water and to create a grey water system. EWB student made their fifth trip to La Lauguneta last week to do two types of geophysical testing of the site in order to find a better location to drill for water. This Matching Grant Project should be completed in the next two months.

MICROCREDIT BANK
SALATIGA, INDONESIA

A microcredit bank project, similar to the project previously completed in Purwokerto Indonesia (MG #16373), to provide small loans to individuals who use the funds to begin or expand small business enterprises. The funds from the businesses help support the person's family, and must be repaid with interest. The previous project was completed in three years, with all $10,000 in loans repaid with interest, permitting the bank to initiate a second series of loans. This project will consist of a bank sponsored by the RC of Salatiga in Central Java, with participation by the RCs of Bali Sanur, Solo Kartini, Pekalongan, and Semarang Kunthi. Primary contact will be Past President of the Salatiga Club, Dr. Nustriayu Salim, with whom we have worked previously. It will also be supported by District 3400 and DG Ritje Rihatinah.

A project to reduce the incidence of Dengue Fever in Kabupaten Badung (population about one million), the developed area adjacent to Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. The program will provide organized inspection of mosquito breeding sites in and around homes, education of adults and children, and training of medical personnel in diagnosis and treatment. The project is similar in nature and scope to the very successful project in Purwokerto, Central Java, and to the recently completed project in Denpasar, the capital of Bali. the project will utilize the experience and training obtained during the Denpasar project (MG #19658), with RDG Wibowo Kusumadi in charge of training.

CLEAN WATER
ACCRA EAST, GHANA

This project will provide a good and healthy source of drinking water to four rural communities consisting of approximately 350 persons. The water will be provided by four bore wells, one in each community, to replace the current source of water which is a stream that gets polluted with foreign materials and bacteria after each rain. The project, when completed, will be handed over to a select group of residents that will be trained by the contractor on basic pump operation and repair. Our district Ambassadorial Scholar, Luci Storelli-Castro, will be in Ghana during this time and will participate in the project.

PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTER

This project will provide ambulance vehicles (van with basic equipments) and improvement of the maternity ward and basic clinical laboratory equipment for Aralagodu Health Care Center which will serve small villages around 40-50 miles. NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR DEAF CHILDREN
ZACAPA, GUATEMALA

The purpose of this project is to provide financial support to equip a school for the deaf. This school, located in Zacapa, serves about 75 children with impaired hearing and/or speaking. The facility does not receive sufficient financial support to equip itself with needed computers, associated specialized software and other tools to educate their students. This project will directly benefit the students of the school and indirectly benefit the families and communities of these youth while supporting the Rotary Clubs in their efforts to support their communities.
