Rotary and the Pursuit of Happiness (Lunch Meeting)
This coming Wednesday, June 7th, RCFC meets at noon at the Lincoln Center, and fellow Rotarian Lloyd Thomas will make what should be an interesting presentation, following his intro by Bill Timpson.  In Lloyd’s own words, “Happiness is the mental state of experiencing positive or pleasant emotions, not dependent on events outside your skin.  It is the highly individualized and ever-changing dynamic of being alive/conscious and depends on the meaning we give to incoming information…usually by way of the five senses and or what we attend to (like our internal experience). “  Further, according to our speaker, “The mental state of happiness is physiologically related to internal “balance” between pleasure (dopamine etc.) and pain/stress (cortisol).  Too much or too little of anything becomes a negative.  Plato’s Golden Mean. “ Toward that end, our speaker will point out many daily activities that can contribute to one’s happiness. READ MORE...

DEI Fellowship
The DEI Fellowship is planning a two-part series on “DEI: the Good, the Bad and the Indifferent”.  What legitimate reasons are seen in opposition to, or in support of DEI programs?  The June 7 Fellowship meets this Wednesday immediately following the noon Rotary meeting (~1:10) in the Lincoln Center Columbine Room.  All are welcome.  Our focus is on understanding, not judging.

This Wednesday, June 7, Bob Lawrence will lead a discussion on DEI from a Political Science perspective, helping us understand what some see as legitimate reasons to oppose DEI.

August 2 we will follow with Rajiv Mehta’s personal experience as an immigrant and a government contractor speaking on “DEI: What Tools, Policies and Programs has business used to become more inclusive.”

RECAP: Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission: The Evolution of Oil and Gas Regulation in the State of Colorado
On May 31, Dave Stewart introduced John Messner,  Commissioner with the Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission – “CECMC” -  (recently re-named from the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission or COGCC), who brought us up to date on recent changes in oil and gas regulations in the State of Colorado that resulted from legislative action (especially Senate bill 19-181).  These changes reflect the shift in mission of the COGCC from an agency that fosters oil and gas development with consideration of public health and the environment to one that regulates oil and gas development in a way that protects public health, welfare, the environment and wildlife resources.  He pointed out that these changes were touted by Conservation Colorado as making Colorado a national leader in protecting public health and safety and, simultaneously, touted by the Colorado Oil & Gas Association as being the toughest in the country, further protecting the environment and ensuring that the hydrocarbons produced here are cleaner than anywhere else in the world.  READ MORE...
