U.S. Currency: History, Art and Symbolism

This Wednesday, January 22nd, after his introduction by Ralph Smith, fellow Rotarian Bob Meroney reviews the history of American money from the time of the American revolution to today.  The art and symbolism found on different denominations will be shown, the story of Hobo nickels related,  the Masonic conspiracy described, and proposed evil influences dealt with.  If you have any interest at all in money, be sure to be there!

RCFC Teacher of the Month Marge Couget
This month our honored teacher was Marge Couget, who has been a kindergarten teacher at Beattie Elementary School for nine years Her career spans 28 years of teaching. She was introduced by her principal, Dave Patterson.  Presenting Couget with a check for $250 from RCFC was Committee Member, Marty Bachman.

RCFC's Newest Member - Grace Taylor
Past President Steve Laine inducted RCFC's newest member, Grace Taylor, who will join the Evening fellowship.  Grace is Vice President of Operations for PVH and MCR, both hospitals are part of UCHealth.  She oversees several support services and fosters relationships with network affiliate hospitals.  She is sponsored by Stacy Plemmons.

50 Years of Rotary Exchange Experience
On January 15, our fellow RCFC member, Randy Kurtz, shared his experiences from some 50 years of interactions with Rotary Exchange Students.  To start, Randy compared the experience of himself and his family with that of his father-in-law who spent 83 of his 85 years in the bedroom community of Bernardsville, NJ.  In contrast, Randy and all three of his children have spent significant periods living in various countries around the world, some on exchange programs, others for various other reasons.

Urgent/Current Announcements:
THIS WEDNESDAY, Jan. 22, RCFC's LUNCH MEETING WILL BE AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 531 South College, as a test.  The Board is seriously considering this venue because of significant annual savings.
 
Sharyn Salmen reminded all to signup for the Quad Club Purple Pins for Polio bowling tournament, Sunday, January 26.  Bring family and friends.  Arrive by 1:30pm at Chippers Lane Horsetooth Center.  Sponsors needed to match 2019 numbers (12 lane sponsors and 5 team sponsors).  Currently have 8 Lane Sponsors plus 3 Team Sponsors.  
 
The Science and Engineering Fellowship meets immediately after the noon meeting in Room 209 of the First Presbyterian Church.  Bob Simmons will discuss controversies surrounding the true cause(s) of gastric ulcers - and no, it's not the current political climate after all!
 
Chair Randy Kurtz Thanked all who participated in the Merit Badge University (Boy Scouts of America) the past two Saturdays.  Over 150 scouts participated.
 
Sally Lee reported King Soopers rebate of $532.00 that goes directly into our charitable budget.  If you haven’t signed up yet, see Sally.
 
Harry Mueller needs weekly Greeters - especially Red Badge members.  Please see Harry to sign up.  

Older Announcements Still Relevant:
Mara Johnson needs host families for our incoming youth exchange student (2020-21 school year).  She also thanked Club for the $4000 budget.
 
Henry Weisser brought OLLI (formerly OSHER) catalogs for the winter/spring semester.  See Henry if you need one.  
 
The Finance Committee met this month on the 3rd Thursday, and the Board Meeting is the 4th Thursday each month.  Both meetings are from 3:30 to 5:00 in the Markley Motors Conference room.  All are invited.
 
Martin Limbird invited club members to join President-elect Del Benson and Jeannie in Honolulu June 6-10, 2020 for the Rotary International convention
 
Marty Bachman urged members to shop on Amazon Smile.  Rebates would be credited to our club at the rate of 0.5%.  Look for the Amazon logo on our website.
 
Marty Bachman requests fun fundraising ideas.  She also needs volunteers for her committee.

Ralph Smith has 2020 calendars for sale for $15.  $5 comes back to the Legacy Fund.
 
The Board Of Directors approved participation in the 2020 Peach Festival.  The beneficiary will be Habitat for Humanity.  President Rob summarized the discussion and outlined the factors to be watched closely.  Peach Festival financial report update will be emailed to members.
 
SPECIAL NOTE:  Kathy Hawkins cautioned members not to pay dues AND charities with a single checks.  For charities contributions to be tax-deductible, you must write a separate check.
 
President Rob announced that for those wishing to apply for the new "Noon Membership Without Meals" category, a form needs to be completed and submitted to the Membership Committee.  
 
PDG Mike Forney invited retired professionals to join SCORE (Senior Corps Of Retired Executives).  Volunteers work with small business personnel to enhance their business.  Counselors are needed in Ft. Collins.  If interested, contact Mike Forney.
 
Marty Bachman reminds all to report special occasions/events/illness that the Care and Recognition Committee should acknowledge.  Call Marty, Susan Brand, Melanie Chamberlain, or Jeanne Fangman.
