The Vatican Observatory - A Legacy of Faith and Science
On Wednesday, April 20, we meet on Zoom, and host speaker Jim Renn with a presentation on the history of the Vatican supporting science. He will be introduced by Dave Stewart. Mr. Renn’s talk begins with the fact that at the end of the 19th century the Catholic Church was challenged by Rationalist scholars who asserted that findings of the natural sciences contradict the teachings of the Bible. In 1891 Pope Leo XIII re-founded the “Specola Vaticana” (Vatican Observatory) so “everyone might see that the Church and her Pastors are not opposed to true and solid science, whether true of divine.” READ MORE...
For our in-person meeting last Wednesday we had a return visit from author Brian Carroll. His recent book, William O. Collins, From the Mayflower to the Rockies, With Stops in Between is the result of Brian’s research into the family and personal history of the city namesake who joined the Military late in life to command troops guarding the Oregon and Overland Trails (ie, “fight Indians”). Breakfast Rotary Club will present its second annual Field of Honor®
On Memorial Day weekend, May 27 – 30, 2022, the Field of Honor will be a spectacular display of 500 American flags, each with a medallion honoring a special hero. Heroes are veterans, living or deceased, active military, first responders, medical workers, teachers and personal heroes. Medallions can be purchased for $50.00 each and more information at rotaryfcbreakfast.org.
