Rotary Takes Part in World Polio Day
This Wednesday, October 16, RCFC welcomes Breakfast Rotary Club member, Krishna Murthy, M.D.  A long time activist and supporter of the international effort to eradicate polio, he has been honored for his work locally and abroad.  Krishna has been a Rotarian since 1991, and currently serves as Co-Chair for the End Polio Committee for our District.

Community Grants Award to Larimer County Humaine Society
The Community Grants committee awarded an Education Program grant to the Larimer Humane Society.  Their mission is to further the compassionate, safe & responsible relationship between animals & people.  Our $2,500 grant will be used to expand their Humane Education Program which works to promote the responsible care & treatment of animals.  Accepting the check was Lori O'Day, Director of the Humane Education program.
RCFC Cadet of the Month - Sydney Smith
Retired Army Colonel and Past President Jan Bertholf introduced Capt. Joshua Curtis, Asst. Professor of Military Science, who then introduced Cadet Sydney Smith as RCFC's Cadet of the Month.  Cadet Smith is from Missouri, and plans to go enter the infantry with hopes to specialize in addiction counseling.  
President Elect Del Benson Given Wildlife Award
During this month's convention, President Elect Del Benson received an award from the Wildlife Society for his writings about environment and peace, published in our Rotary Club Peace Building Newsletter.  Del was also part of an international book launch.  He and colleagues authored a chapter about wildlife management by landowners in Africa, Europe and US with a rating system for evaluating contributions to overall conservation.
Annual State of the University - Welcome President Joyce McConnell!
On October 9, Joyce McConnell, the 15th (and first female) President of Colorado State University, presented the annual the State of the University.  This event continues a Rotary Club of Fort Collins tradition that dates back to the administration of William E. Morgan, also a former member of our club who served as Colorado A&M I Colorado State University President from 1949 to 1969.

The membership application of Jana Beasley has been approved by the RCFC Board of Directors.  Jana is a Public Relations and Content Specialist at Old Town Media, and is sponsored by Kerri Luginbill and will join the Evening Fellowship.  Any comments regarding Jana as a new member should be directed to the club secretary, Cindy DeGroot, or to her sponsor in writing by October 23, 2019, one week after this notification appears in the October 16, print Rotogear.
 
The Investment Fellowship will meet in the Foyer immediately after the regular meeting.  Our topic: Tariffs, Trade Wars, and International Investing: Implications for Investors.  These are timely issues affecting all investors.  Everyone is welcome.    

The Fall Rotary Highway Cleanup will be Saturday October 26, 2019.  We will meet at the Sundance Saloon at 8:00AM as usual.  See Ron or Troy to sign up.
 
Dan Ward has moved to Hospice care, and is not accepting visitors.  Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Ralph Smith has 2020 calendars for sale for $15.  $5 comes back to the Legacy Fund.
 
Martin Limbird invited all to the OctoBEER Fest on Oct. 27.  Coat is $15 per person.  Location:  The Horse and Dragon.

Steve Kane asked for volunteers for a service project at Eudora park on Oct. 19 from 8-12. 
 
Rotarians will also have a second opportunity for service the same day at Eastside Park, removing a T-ball backstop and benches.  Contact Stacy Plemmons if you can help

To-be-inducted Rotarian Milt Garrett presented two flags from Russian Rotary Club’s that he visited on his trip to Russia and Crimea.  
 
The Board Of Directors approved participation in the 2020 Peach Festival.  President Rob summarized the discussion and outlined the factors to be watched closely.

Bill West urged members to attend the Harvest Farm Festival.  Proceeds go aid the homeless and addicted.  Sets of 4 tickets were auctioned off for $50.

John Roberts invited members to the Global Village Museum annual gala on Oct. 20.  The Mexican Fiesta is from 4 to 8 at the Country Club.

Del Benson asked anyone interested in being faculty sponsor for Rotoract to contact him.
 
Our club’s holiday party will be Dec. 18 at the Country Club.  Mark the date!
 
SPECIAL NOTE:  Kathy Hawkins cautioned members not to pay dues AND charities with a single checks.  For charities contributions to be tax-deductible, you must write a separate check.
 
The Finance Committee now meets the 2nd Thursday, and the Board Meeting is the 3rd Thursday each month.  Both meetings are from 3:30 to 5:00 in the Markley Motors Conference room.  All are invited.

President Rob announced that for those wishing to apply for the new "Noon Membership Without Meals" category, a form needs to be completed and submitted to the Membership Committee.

Del Benson reported the Fellowship Committee encourages home fellowship evenings.  Talk to Del if you are interested.
 
PDG Mike Forney invited retired professionals to join SCORE (Senior Corps Of Retired Executives).  Volunteers work with small business personnel to enhance their business.  Counselors are needed in Ft. Collins.  If interested, contact Mike Forney.
 
Martin Limbird urged members to attend the Rotary International conference in Hawaii next year, June 6-10.  
 
Volunteers for greeter coordinator and front desk duty are needed.
 
Marty Bachman reminds all to report special occasions/events/illness that the Care and Recognition Committee should acknowledge.  Call Marty, Susan Brand, Melanie Chamberlain, or Jeanne Fangman.
