These Rotarians recently worked at the Food Share program of the Food Bank. They repackaged sweet potatoes and worked in the store assisting clients with food items. Thanks for helping out members in our community who are food insecure.
Club members have many opportunities for humanitarian service. Service programs address such concerns as health care, hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and the environment. Rotarians experience the fulfillment that comes from giving back to the community. Here are a few of the local programs the Rotary Club of Fort Collins have been involved in:
These Rotarians recently worked in CSU’s food pantry. They packaged canned and dry foods in boxes (placed on pallet to the left). About 30% of the CSU’s student population is food insecure. The shelves and tables were also cleaned and polished.
These Rotarians recently rewrapped 12,770 diapers (3 pallets) for the Nappie Project. The Nappie Project was taken over by the Food Bank for Larimer in July, 2020. The diapers are rewrapped into packages of 25 each. They are distributed to families in need thru the Food Bank’s network.
Several energetic Rotarians recently helped at the Food Bank Warehouse. We repackaged 1 pallet of frozen bananas into individual family portion packets to be distributed thru their food pantries.
On March 2nd, at our club’s evening meeting, members of the Rotary Club of Fort Collins held a service project at SpeedPro of Fort Collins and Northern Colorado where we repackaged 1,310 pairs of womens, girls, and boys underwear to donate to Homeward Alliance. Spearheaded by member Kathy Hawkins, this project was funded through a $1,000 District Grant from Rotary District 5440 and $1,000 from our own club’s Charities Community Service budget which is generously funded by club members. Thank you to everyone who showed up and to everyone who continues to donate to our club’s charitable efforts.
A Saturday morning in March Rotarians worked at the Food Bank’s Food Share location to help provide food for those with food insecurity. We sorted donated produce by category (in the very cold storage room!), stocked the refrigerators, coolers, bread area, etc. to provide a “shopping” experience for clients of the Food Share. It was a great opportunity to interact and help out those in need
In February, these 10 energetic Rotarians re-wrapped over 8,600 diapers for the Nappie project. These were distributed through the Food Bank to families in need.
On Sunday February 6th, we gathered at Chipper's Lanes, for the annual Purple Pins for Polio Event. Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. We've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. This event raises funds to End Polio Now!
On Thursday, September 16th, we volunteered at the Poudre High School Mobile Pantry. The Food Bank is hosting pop-up mobile food pantries throughout Larimer County. Anyone in need of food is welcome to attend. The pantries are “drive-through” where clients can receive a variety of pre-selected food items. We served over 108 families on Thursday.
It was a fulfilling Saturday morning volunteering at the Food Bank for Larimer County. We packaged bakery items, snacks, loaded grocery carts with food, delivered the food carts to clients’ vehicles and provided free kids meals. There was a steady stream of vehicles; we know we made a difference! This is a quarterly volunteer opportunity for our Club.
Thanks Rotarians!
